On Sunday, September 18, the YMCA Achievers kick off its 2016-2017 season. The Kick-off will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., at the YMCA Teen Center, located at 1075 S. Euclid Ave, next to the Sarasota YMCA – Frank E. Berlin Branch.
At the meeting, you will get an overview of the Achievers program and how it works. You will get invaluable information on our 20162017 planned events and activities, our juniors and seniors college readiness program, Achiever contract requirements, and the benefits of active involvement. You will hear from our Achiever, Jamiya Jones, on what it means to be an Achiever. Jamiya, a graduating senior at Booker High School, has been an Achiever for the past three years. Not only is she an active Achiever, she is involved in a number of extracurricular activities including: sports, music, dancing, and governing. She is a member of the BHS girls’ basketball, softball and volleyball team, the BHS Gospel choir, and Achievers Youth Leadership Council. Recently, she completed training to become a poll watcher during the upcoming election.
The meeting is open to all interested pre-teens, teens, parents and/or guardians. Light refreshments will be served. The Y-Achievers, a National YMCA program, is an academic achievement/career development initiative whose primary purpose is to help teens and preteens set and pursue high educational and career goals.
