Congratulations to 2017 graduates! The Sarasota Family YMCA, through its donors, awarded a total of $85,000 in scholarships. Fifty (50) students received scholarships fifteen graduating seniors and 35 Achievers Alumni (former Achievers currently attending college).

Scholarships ranged from $1000 to $2,500. Achievers, from the graduating class of 2017, receiving scholarships were: Aylani Gonzalez, Jada Bennett, Terez Jones, Joanne Gustave, Benjamin Klein, MelQuel Bush, Jeanell Jackson, Matthew Kowalczyk, Jannel James, Melissa Roberts, Avia Davis, Eboney Brown, and Janaiea C. Jones.

To be eligible for a YMCAAchievers scholarship, students must be an active member of the Achievers program with an up-to-date signed contract; must have attended at least 70% of Achievers programs and activities; and, must apply for the scholarship by the designated deadline. Scholarships are renewable as long as the recipient remains in good standing and reapplies.

Awardees were announced at the Achievers End of Year Celebration, held on Sunday, June 25th, at The Francis on Palm Avenue. Over 200 people were in attendance.

The Achievers is a National YMCA program. It’s an academic achievement/career development initiative whose primary purpose is to help teens and preteens set and pursue high educational and career goals. Y-Achievers helps teens and pre-teens build character, explore college and career options and interact with professionals who serve as role models.
