SARASOTA – All Faiths Food Bank has been awarded $200,000 from Publix Super Markets Charities. The generous donation will be used to help fund the expansion of the All Faiths Food Bank food distribution center and cam- pus, expected to begin early 2017. Specifically, Publix Super Markets Charities responded to All Faiths Food Bank’s need for a much larger food cooler and freezer.
The very generous gift is part of a $5 million gift to the Feeding America network, including 28 member food banks and 38 of their local partner agencies across the grocery chain’s six-state operating area. This donation to the Feeding America network is more than three times larger than any amount previously given to the charity by Publix.
With a new freezer/ cooler system, All Faiths Food Bank expects to source and distribute an additional 3.5 mil- lion pound of produce from local growers and retailers – more than twice what they are able to store and distribute currently. Until the expansion is completed, All Faiths Food Bank has rented two refrigerated semi-tractor trailers to store the perishable food that cannot fit in its current walk- in refrigeration unit.
“We are so grateful for this incredibly generous gift,” said All Faiths Food Bank CEO Sandra Frank. “The support of Publix year round through their regular food donations is a major component of our ability to provide healthy food to our residents. This contribution brings us so much closer to fulfilling our goals of increasing our capacity and meeting the increasing need for nutritious food in our community.”
