SARASOTA 2023 ACTIVITIES HONORING DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.

Saturday, January 21st – Community Health Fair at Goodwill, located on Martin Luther King, Jr. Way, at 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Prostate testing, blood pressure, etc.

Sunday, January 15th – Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at Temple Emanu-El, 151 McIntosh Road, Sarasota.  The tribute begins at 2:00 p.m. and will feature music by the Soul Sensations. Also on program are Rev. Charles McKenzie and Lonnetta Gaines.  The service is in memory of tragedies at EAM Episcopal Church in Charleston, SC (2015) and Tree of Life Synagogue, Pittsburgh, PA (2018).  Register at www.sarasotatemple.org.  The event is free; donations gratefully accepted. Monday, January 16th :

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Breakfast and Community Awards will be held at the Robert L. Taylor Community Complex located at 1845 34th Street.  The breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m.  This year’s theme is “Truth, Light and Hope”.  The keynote speaker is Rabbi Michael Shefrin, Associate Rabbi, Temple Emanu-El.  Tickets are $30.00 per person.  A table of 8 is $240.00 and a ticket of 10 is $300.00.  For tickets, contact Cynthia Howard at 941-724-4205.  Tickets are also available for purchase on Eventbrite: https://2022mlkbreakfast.eventbrite.com.   Seating is limited due to capacity restraints.  All tickets must be purchased in advance; no tickets will be available at the door.

The Historical/Unity will follow the MLK Breakfast starting at 11:00 a.m. at the Robert L. Taylor Community Complex and will end at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Park on Cocoanut Avenue.  It will be an afternoon of food, music and vendors.
