Friends and supporters of Booker High School are gathering at one of Sarasota’s newest entertainment hot spots for a fun-filled school fundraiser. “A Bull Market at the Blue Rooster” features live entertainment by Next Level, a dinner of Southern classics and cocktails, and an array of unique themed gift baskets available for bid during a silent auction. The fun begins at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 28 at 1525 4th Street in Sarasota. Tickets are $75. The attire is “business casual.” Complimentary valet parking is provided, but gratuity is encouraged. Organizers want to make the soiree an annual fundraiser.
“Now is the time to plan and build a foundation to continue our record of achievement,” said event chairperson, BHS Volunteer and Partner Coordinator Cindy Eley. “The event will assist in opening more doors, pathways and guidance to students as they enter the world and become contributors to our society,” Eley added.
With the official launch of the 2016-2017 College and Career Readiness Program, proceeds from the fundraiser will support scholarships and opportunities for students in all areas. The objective of the strategic plan is to provide personalized, student-centered special programs such as after school tutorials, career and technical education, and college advisement. “Our goal is to help all students reach their potential, whether through our nationally recognized Visual and Performing Arts Program, the University of Cambridge College Preparatory Program, the Law Academy or athletics,” said BHS Principal Dr. Rachel Shelley.
An Abraham Lincoln quote included in an appeal letter sums up the hopes of BHS supporters to build bright futures for the next generation of Tornadoes. “The best way to predict the future is to create it,” Lincoln said.
