The Rubonia Community Center was alive and festive joining in the National Night Out Celebration by giving out backpacks filled with school supplies. The event sponsored by the D.L. Randall Foundation gave out 150 backpacks to the children who attended. Music filled the air and the community got into the festivities with dancing, children, teens, adults and even elders in the community joining in. Hot dogs, hamburgers were grilled and given out with chips and a drink. Local law enforcement officers, headed by Sheriff Wells came to the event handing out badges and baseballs while engaging in positive conversation with the youth at the event.

Fire fighters came and brought a ladder truck allowing youth to see inside of the truck, answering questions and giving out fire hats. A special treat was the appearance of Smokey the Bear which most of the children hadn’t seen before. The children learned of conservation and fire safety.
